After finding out that Wil was missing a bow tie, I thought to myself, jeez, wouldn’t it be so easy and cheap to make one? Try making this bowtie for your significant other, son, dog, or really, just anyone at all (I’d wear one too! ;D)
Things you’ll need:
- Scrap yarn in any color to your liking. I recommend a stiffer yarn so that the finished bow will appear nice and tight.
- Yarn needle for sewing in the ends
- Scissors (just to snip yarn)
- 4.0mm crochet hook
- Hot Glue
- Velcro (you can substitute velcro for buttons too!)
Body of the Bow
Ch 40, slip stitch to 1st stitch to form a circle.
Round 1: ch 1, sc in each stitch around, and sl st to the first in the round to end (40)
Round 2: ch 1, sc in each around until the last 2 stitches. Dec, then sl st to 1st stitch to end (39)
Round 3: ch 1, sc in each around until the last 2 stitches. Dec, then sl st to 1st stitch to end (38)
Rounds 4-6: ch 1, sc in each stitch around, and sl st to the first in the round to end (38)
The decreases should be extremely subtle, and shouldn’t be noticeable in the final product. The purpose of doing so is to make the bow’s top and bow edges appear less stiff and uniformed.
The next step is to pinch the bow down the middle. Arrange your pinch to the perfect position, and sow the pinched area together.
Next it’s time to Make the ribbon that goes in the middle:
Row 1: sc across the ch to the end, ch 1, turn (13)
Row 2: sc across the ch to the end (13)
Position the ribbon on the bow’s body to your liking, then sow the ribbon to the back of the bow. It should now look like a completed bow!
Ch the length you want the next of your bowtie to be. I made mine with 78 chains, but you can add or subtract the number to your liking.
Row 1: Sk 1st chain from hook, sc from the 2nd ch across to end (78)
Slip the band beneath the back of the ribbon you made earlier and position it to the middle. Finally, cut velcro to fit the band, and hot glue it in place.
Yayy! And now your bow is complete, and look at Wil! He’s ready to hit up any fancy party or business meeting in style. 😉
Happy creating~~! 😀
